Introducing the Ozarks Film Co-Op
Going Faster, Smarter, Together to Build Indie and Major Motion Picture, TV, and New Media Film Industries in the Ozarks
We are a member-owned cooperative (Co-Op), meaning our members pay annual dues and decide on the services the co-op provides. Members vote on major decisions at regular General Membership Meetings and receive concrete benefits throughout the year in return for their membership dues, which partially fund the activities of the co-op. This form of organization is democratic, responsive, and is appealing to people whose personal values are aligned with the ethics of the co-op movement. The Ozarks Film Co-Op is the only arts co-op for filmmakers in the Missouri Ozarks.
The philosophy of a Co-Op organization is to serve its members, who buy services from the Co-Op, which provides the services members have deemed useful to them. Hence, at the end of the day, members get back from the Co-Op what they give which can be dues, services, donations, or volunteer time. At the end of the year, profits after expenses are paid, and reserves set aside, are divided among members as a Patronage Refund. This cycle of support and service build up the industry as Co-Op members are able to benefit from and share in the work of developing a thriving film industry in the Ozarks.
The Ozarks Film Co-Op was established after the Founders' vision to accelerate the building of the film industry through nonprofit and governmental channels was rejected in favor a a slower approach. The Founders chose speed, intelligence, and ethics as their North Star, which aligned with a cooperative approach to achieving their goal of a thriving media hub.
